Lillestrom sporting director Simon Mesfin has expressed his disappointment after Andreas Georgson was poached by Manchester United.

The Red Devils have made a number of changes to Erik ten Hag 's backroom team this summer after extending the Dutchman's contract, including the additions of Rene Hake and former United favourite Ruud van Nistelrooy. Jelle ten Rouwelaar has also joined the club as goalkeeping coach following the departure of Richard Hartis.

United confirmed on Friday evening that Georgson, 42, would be joining the club as a first-team coach with a particular focus on set-pieces.

Mesfin vented his frustrations in a press conference on Saturday where he admitted that he was "sad" to see Georgson go - just months after he became the Norwegian outfit's new head coach.

Mesfin said: “Time will show how we do things in the future. Right now we're not going to change that much. It is always tough and difficult. In addition, it's sad when it's a coach we've become very fond of. He's been very well liked. We saw a great future with him, so it's very boring that it's happening.”

He added: “We have learned some lessons from last year's experience. There is calm in the playing group and in the coaching staff. The same applies to the board. There is no crisis atmosphere in the club, but we take it seriously that we have to figure out the way forward together. We hope to get a permanent solution in place as soon as possible.”

Ten Hag has already confirmed that Georgson will work specifically in areas of “individual development” and “set plays” in his new role at the club.

And with a refreshed coaching team now in place, Ten Hag and United's top brass are likely to switch their focus back to the transfer window ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

United have already snapped up Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro this summer but it's understood they are still in the market for a defensive midfielder and a right-back.

Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain has been touted as United's top midfield target while Noussair Mazraoui - a player Ten Hag worked closely with at Ajax - has emerged as an option to compete with Diogo Dalot next season.
