A man has appeared in court after denying to gardai that he made hoax bomb calls to Government Buildings.

Michael Murray (53) appeared before Judge Paula Murphy in Dublin’s District Court this morning - accused of making two false reports on July 3rd and 4th last year.

Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution, Detective Garda Joseph Heaphy said the accused man stated after caution: “I didn’t order any bomb attack on government buildings or the Oireachtas on those dates."

Mr Murray is alleged to have committed the offences in the Midlands Prison on those dates last year. Judge Murphy consented for the matter to be sent forward for trial. Mr Murray made no application for bail and was remanded into custody.

He is due to appear in court next week for the production of the book of evidence. John Shanley, Solicitor for Mr Murray said his client was “anxious” to be produced in court when the matter was next up.

Det Garda Heaphy told the court that the prison service asked for the matter to moved forward via video link for “security reasons.” Mr Shanley, Defending for Mr Murray, said his client was entitled to be in court in person and he doesn’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be produced.

The Judge stated she wanted to see further evidence of the legislation on the matter at the next court appearance next week before making a decision. Mr Murray is due back in court on July 25.
