The mother of tragic teen Jay Slater has posted an update on the GoFundMe page which saw close to £60,000 (€71,000) raised to help the family hunt for the 19-year-old.

It was confirmed this week that a body found in Tenerife was that of the missing apprentice bricklayer. The tragic discovery was made close to the village of Masca in Tenerife on Monday. Spanish police said initially that all evidence pointed towards it being Jay, and that he'd died accidentally after suffering a fall.

It also emerged the body was found alongside his clothes and personal belongings, close to where his phone last pinged on Monday, June 17. The Canary Islands Higher Court of Justice today confirmed the body has been identified as missing Jay Slater.

Now, Jay's mum Debbie Duncan has released an update on the fundraising page that saw tens of thousands donated in support of the search. She said: "Hello everyone, thank you for all of your kindness, support and condolences in light of the tragic news that Jay's body has been found. We are overwhelmed with grief and are so grateful for your support.

"The wonderful team from The Netherlands, Signi Zoekhondon, have remained in Spain all week and have continued to support us since Jay was found. They are due to fly home in the coming days and we are so appreciative of their dedication and support.

"We would like to thank LBT Global for their support during this impossible time. We are working with agencies to arrange Jay's repatriation to the UK and the remaining funds, along with any future donations will be used to help with this if needed and to pay for Jay's funeral costs back home. We want to give our boy the send-off he deserves so please do continue to share and support our fundraiser however you can."

Jay's loved ones have laid flowers near to the scene where his body was found. Blue and white flowers were left near the ravine in Masca, Tenerife where the tragic discovery was made on Monday, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Debbie penned a heartbreaking tribute as she said: "To my beautiful boy. I'm so sorry we never found you. I miss you so much. You will be forever young and forever missed. Love you so much."

Jay's brother, Zak, also left a handwritten tribute as he said: "Love you little bro. Never in a million years did I think I'd be doing this. I'll look after mum and dad. Hope you're partying up there with grandad. Hope to see you again some day. Rest easy bro. I love you."
