Dr Amir Khan, a regular on Lorraine, This Morning and Good Morning Britain, has taken to Instagram to share his insights on hair loss and how to encourage regrowth, a common concern among his patients.

Firstly, Dr Khan rules out treatable causes such as nutritional deficiencies or hormonal imbalances before exploring other potential factors.

He explains: "I will work with my patients to rule out any hormonal issues such as an underactive thyroid or menopausal symptoms, look at any deficiencies such as iron, make sure there are no autoimmune or skin conditions going on. Once I've ruled out any treatable causes, I also ask about what my patients are eating to help good hair growth and health."

He emphasises that while there is "no one food that is going to fix your hair growth," eating a balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals may help, reports the Express.

While stating that more research is needed, he shared some helpful tips. Here's what the GP wants you to know.

1. Eggs

According to Dr Khan: "Eggs may help. They contain high levels of protein which is what hair is mainly made up of and something called biotin which is essential for the hair protein, keratin. Eggs also contain zinc and selenium which can support healthy hair growth."

2. Berries

The GP reckons fruit is a smashing choice too. He shared: "Now you guys know I go on about the health benefits of berries all the time, and that is because they are ace and it's no different for your hair."

He highlighted why this is a top-notch option for your locks, saying: "They contain vitamin C which is needed for collagen production which can strengthen hair and lots of antioxidants which can help protect hair from damage."

3. Dark green leafy veg

Not everyone's cup of tea, but dark green leafy vegetables are not just good for your overall well-being; they're brilliant for your hair too. The doc notes they are "another champion food group" and adds: "They contain folic acid, iron, vitamin A and vitamin C, all of which can support healthy hair growth."

4. Fish and nuts

For those looking to boost their hair game, the expert suggests: "Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish like salmon and mackerel and plant versions found in walnuts and flax seeds can also support hair growth."

The wellness expert continues: "Nuts and seeds also contain vitamin E which is thought to be a hair-healthy antioxidant."
