Gardaí arrested a teenager in a County Cork town on Monday evening after authorities received reports of the presence of a firearm.

At around 7pm on Monday evening, uniformed Gardaí rushed to a property in Carrigaline alongside members of the District Detective Unit and the Regional Armed Support Unit after it was alleged a man was in possession of a firearm.

Gardaí arrested a man in his late teens at the property after what one witness described as a ‘very tense’ few minutes as they seized what turned out to be an imitation firearm.

CorkBeo reports the man is understood to have threatened a family member inside the property, with Gardaí speaking to the young teen via a ground-floor window before he gave up the pellet gun.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí responded to reports of a male armed with a firearm at a property in Carrigaline, County Cork on Monday evening, 16 July at approximately 7pm.

“Uniform Gardaí from Carrigaline attended the scene with assistance from the District Detective Unit and the Regional Armed Support Unit.

“A man (aged in his late teens) was arrested at the scene and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in County Cork. An imitation firearm was seized by Gardaí.”

They added that investigations into the arrest are ongoing.
