The Professor Albert Fenech Health Clinic, found in the Silvio Parnis Building in Siggiewi, was inaugurated by Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela and Social Accommodation Minister Roderick Galdes on Friday.

The two Ministries said that they reached an agreement for the clinic to be named after the late Professor Albert Fenech. They said that this is in honour of the professor’s memory and work, who was a cardiologist and former PN MP born in Siggiewi. The Ministries said that Fenech was of excellent service to many patients for many years.

Galdes said that the government is implementing a holistic social vision through which a good number of families are making use of the services offered by this new health clinic in the heart of the Siggiewi community. He added that this project is not only supporting the families residing in the Silvio Parnis Building but that it is also catering to other Siggiewi residents who can now receive clinical health services from the new high-quality clinic.

Health Minister Abela said that the number of community clinics has now risen to thirty and that from the beginning of the year until now, 70,000 people have been seen by community clinics. He added that around 600,000 people have been seen by health centres in the country so far this year.

He added that these clinics will be offering a holistic program based on preventive care and that this clinic will offer the services of a family doctor, speech and language pathology for adults and children, as well as podiatry and physiotherapy. “This clinic will be serving around 10,000 people residing in Siggiewi as well as people living in the surrounding area.”

Abela concluded that primary health care is one of the pillars of health in Malta. “We are committed to continue to strengthen medical care in the heart of the community so that it is closer to the patient.”
