MTV returned to Malta’s historic Il-Fosos Square tonight to stage the annual Isle of MTV Malta festival on Tuesday. The show featured performances from international stars Nelly Furtado, RAYE and DJ Snake, who co-headlined to the delight of tens of thousands of excited fans, and appearances from local musicians Klinsmann and Sarah Bonnici.

GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY Award-winning icon Nelly Furtado had a surprise for Isle of MTV Malta fans as she was joined on stage by Liliana Saumet for the global exclusive performance of Furtado’s new single, “Corazón” feat. Bomba Estéreo, from her upcoming album 7. Backed by a full band and dancers, superstar Furtado’s anticipated return to the Isle of MTV Malta stage was an exhilarating performance of her Multi-Platinum singles, including “Maneater” and “Promiscuous”, that had the fan-filled crowd singing along as they were showered with confetti.

Against a stripped-back stage decked in her signature style, all ears were on multi-BRIT-Award-winning RAYE’s smooth vocals during her 7-minute epic “Genesis.” and huge single “Worth It.”. Appearing with a brass band, the record-breaking singer-songwriter also had the whole square dancing with her smash hits “Prada” and “Escapism.”. 

Global superstar DJ and producer DJ Snake played a high-octane 80-minute set, featuring his massive dance anthems “TEKA”, “Let Me Love You” and “Lean On”, closing out the show with a huge finale of pyrotechnics and fireworks.

Maltese fans were also treated to performances from island superstars. Klinsmann gave the world debut performance of his new, unreleased track “Unknown”, whilst Sarah Bonnici covered Whitney Houston’s iconic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” during a spectacular medley of her biggest hits. 

Local DJs Dotx; Wyne; Denzil Jo Armani; GABII; SD-Rey & MC Dave; Bay Radio DJs Kurt, Jamie and Taryn; Koroma, Miggy and MC JD Patrick and DEBRII also delivered energetic sets throughout the evening.  

Over its 16 editions, Isle of MTV Malta has brought tens of thousands of music fans to the square every year to enjoy show-stopping performances from the world’s biggest stars, including Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, David Guetta and Alesso.

The event livestreamed on Pluto TV, and is set to broadcast on MTV internationally on Saturday 14th September in more than 150 countries. Additionally, the show will be available on-demand on Paramount+ at a later date.

The festival is followed by Isle of MTV Malta Music Week, a series of club nights and parties across the hottest venues on the island with various artists including Benni Benassi, Icona Pop and more from July 16th-21st July.
