Malta and Libya could broaden their collaboration so that it extends beyond immigration and collaborate on matters involving the renewable energy sector.
Prime Minister Robert Abela will be meeting with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh in Tripoli, as the pair are set to discuss new areas of collaboration apart from migration.
Among the items on their agenda, Abela and Dbeibeh are expected to extend their 2020 immigration agreement which was said to contribute to fewer migrants reaching Malta’s shores.
Abela will also meet with the president of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi. On Wednesday, Abela will address a forum on immigration in the Mediterranean, where leaders from other Mediterranean states will be present, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Joining Abela’s delegation are home affairs minister Byron Camilleri, Gozo minister Clint Camilleri, and Cabinet Secretary Ryan Spagnol.
