G7 Privacy summit kicks off in Rome
Meetings scheduled Thursday and Friday at Palazzo Poli
Artificial intelligence and emergent
technologies, the free circulation of data as well as
international cooperation are on the agenda of the summit of G7
Data Protection Authorities organised by the Italian Data
Protection Authority in Rome on October 9-11.
The event, titled "Privacy in the age of data", kicked off on
Wednesday afternoon at the Borghese Gallery and will continue on
Thursday, October 10, and on Friday, October 11, at Palazzo Poli
in Rome.
Meetings, divided into several sessions, will start with the
"Declaration on Generative AI" adopted at the G7 Privacy in
Tokyo in 2023 and will bring together: the board of the Italian
DPA (Pasquale Stanzione, Ginevra Cerrina Feroni, Agostino
Ghiglia, Guido Scorza) and the competent authorities of Canada,
France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United
States of America, together with the European Data Protection
Board (EDPB) and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS).
The objective is to define a common proposal to guarantee a safe
and responsible circulation of personal data; to balance
emerging technologies and artificial intelligence with the
rights and freedoms of individuals; and to promote closer and
more effective oversight of the implementation of data
protection legislation.
During the summit, the Italian Data Protection Authority will
present its proposal on "The role of data protection authorities
within the framework of artificial intelligence governance".
A press conference to present the outcome of the discussions
will be held at the end of the event, on October 11 at 1:00 p.m.
