Ireland international returns

Ireland international Ellen Molloy has cut short her stay with Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old made the switch to the Blades last September, having been at Wexford Youths for five years before that.

Molloy featured in eight of Sheffield United’s 10 league games this season, but is now returning to Ireland for “personal reasons”, according to the Championship club.

“Sheffield United can confirm Ellen Molloy and Charlotte Wardlaw have both left the club ahead of the second half of the Barclays Women's Championship season,” read a statement.

“Molloy has returned to Ireland for personal reasons after the club agreed to a mutual termination of the midfielder's contract, while defender Wardlaw has been recalled by parent club Chelsea.

“The club can also confirm young midfielder Tilly Bristow will miss the remainder of the campaign after suffering an ankle ligament injury in the Adobe Women's FA Cup third round win over Liverpool Feds before Christmas.

“Bristow underwent successful surgery within a week of the match and has now begun a period of recovery and rehabilitation with the full support of the club.”
