Shamrock Rovers missed out on a much-coveted automatic qualification spot as they lost 5-1 to Chelsea on Thursday night.

The London outfit are considered overwhelming favourites for the Conference League and showed their pedigree on the night.

To their credit, Shamrock Rovers did not disgrace themselves but will rue a couple of major errors on the night.

Here is how the players rated.

Leon Pohls: Got his wires crossed with Darragh Burns for Chelsea’s first and could have cost another, but he did produce some decent saves. 5

Darragh Burns: He will have nightmares about his contribution for Chelsea’s first, while if he had more confidence he might have attacked rather than pass the ball back to Dan Cleary in the lead-up to the hosts’ second. 5

Dan Cleary: Another one who won’t want to be reminded of his big moment - an underhit back pass that was cut out by Marc Guiu for Chelsea’s second. 5

Roberto Lopes: Outstanding. Got in the way of so many Chelsea attacks and shots. 9

Lee Grace: Made a few crucial interceptions of his own on a busy night for the Shamrock Rovers defence. 7

Josh Honohan: Was limited in what he could do from an attacking point of view, but made a few decent runs forward in the second-half. 7

Dylan Watts: Crowded out by Chelsea’s excellent midfield and unable to have the kind of influence we have seen on other occasions from Rovers’ player of the year. Replaced in the second-half by Jack Byrne. 6

Gary O'Neill: He did his best to halt Chelsea’s rampant attacking play, but was swimming against the tide. 6

Markus Poom: A night he won’t forget as, six days after the birth of his daughter, the Estonia international scored at Stamford Bridge. He also produced a goal-line clearance. 7

Neil Farrugia: Made a couple of good forward runs, but the end product was missing. 7

Johnny Kenny: Missed a glorious first-half chance that was flagged for offside, but would have stood after a VAR review. A tough night for the man with five goals in a glorious league phase campaign. It’s likely to be his final appearance for Rovers. 6

SUBS

Jack Byrne (for Watts 67), Danny Mandroiu (for Poom 67), Graham Burke (for Farrugia 72), Aaron Greene (for Kenny 72), Darragh Nugent (for O’Neill 78)
