Prince William leaves royal fans hot under the collar with striking new look
Prince Willliam, in his role as Colonel of the Welsh Guards, joined soldiers on Salisbury Plain for live firing exercises - and royal fans couldn't hide their joy about one part of the engagement
Britain's Prince William looked every inch the military man as he stepped out for his latest royal engagement.
The Prince of Wales headed to Salisbury Plain today, where he joined soldiers from the 1st Battalion the Welsh Guards for live firing exercises. William is Colonel of the regiment, which is currently transitioning from ceremonial duties back to field army duties.
And during his visit today, the prince, who still has his rugged beard, took part in firing weapons, flying a drone and chatting with soldiers. But it seems that one detail of the outing proved distracting for some royal fans - the fact that he joined in the engagement in complete Army combat uniform and beret.

And taking to social media, some were delighted to see him in uniform, with one even remarking on how happy he looked. Another wrote on X: "Another day of Prince William looking good." One said: "Well I didn't realise how much I needed to see this today." While another simply wrote: "Prince William looking dashing." William succeeded his father as Colonel of the Welsh Guards back in 2023.
It has been a busy week for William so far as yesterday he made an appearance at the Royal Geographic Society, where he launched an expedition inspired by a famous British explorer. He visited Oman in 2019 and on Monday gave his support to six explorers who were inspired by Bertram Thomas, who took a 42-day trip along the southeast coast of the country in 1928 to discover new specimens.
William is co-patron of the expedition alongside Crown Prince Theyazin bin Haitham, heir to the Omani throne, who also attended the event. The prince's 2019 trip was without the Princess of Wales, but he has sounded optimistic about possible joint overseas engagements with his wife after her cancer battle. "I think hopefully Catherine will be doing a bit more next year, so we'll have some more trips maybe lined up," he said earlier this month.
Meanwhile, tomorrow William will attend the annual Tusk Awards in London. It comes as the royal diary appears packed in the run-up to Christmas with the Emir of Qatar's state visit to the UK next week.
Kate, who is recovering from cancer, will join her husband the Prince of Wales in greeting Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the first of his three wives, Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, at Kensington Palace on December 3.
William and Kate are then due to travel with the pair to Horse Guards Parade, where they will receive a ceremonial welcome before meeting the King and Queen. Presentations will be made, a royal salute will occur and the Qatari national anthem is set to be played.
The Emir and Sheikha Jawaher will join Charles and Camilla and William and Kate in a carriage procession along The Mall to Buckingham Palace, where they will be met by a second guard of honour. However, Kate will not attend the grand state banquet hosted by the King at Buckingham Palace in the evening, Kensington Palace said.
The princess, 42, has made just a handful of public appearances so far in 2024 after she underwent major abdominal surgery in January and then was diagnosed with cancer. Last month, Kate made a surprise visit with her husband William to meet the bereaved families of the victims of the Southport attack. She also honoured the war dead at Remembrance events earlier this month.
In a video the princess released in September, she revealed she had finished her chemotherapy treatment, and spoke of how she was "looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months" But she added her focus was "doing what I can to stay cancer free".
