What Harry and Meghan's 'professional separation' means for them as Duchess speaks out
Meghan Markle previously hinted that she and Prince Harry would be joined by their children for a major public event, but their professional separation might prevent the family reunion
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are going through a “professional separation” amid reports their relationship is strained.
The couple - who share son Prince Archie, five, and daughter Princess Lilibet, three - are famed for their shared projects, charities and visits. In recent months, however, Meghan and Harry seem to have parted ways in a lot of their work, travelling and speaking apart.
Most recently, Meghan attended an event held for Afghan women with the organisation Mina's List. While the Duchess of Sussex spoke out about the charity on the website for her shared project with Harry, the Archewell Foundation, her husband was nowhere to be seen at the event.

“This initiative, led by the partner organisation Mina's List, has spent the past year building community through storytelling and creating a safe space for women who have resettled in the U.S. from Afghanistan,” the foundation wrote.
"The evening included a shared meal that encouraged open conversation centered on gratitude and resilience. The Duchess expressed her deep appreciation to the attendees for sharing their personal stories and cultural experiences, underscoring her excitement for future gatherings that continue to strengthen these connections.
"The dinner was hosted at Our Place, founded by Shiza Shahid, where the participants were gifted with new cookware for the upcoming holiday season. The Archewell Foundation remains committed to uplifting women and fostering community through shared experiences, reinforcing the importance of unity and support during challenging times."
While Meghan went to the Mina’s List dinner alone, Harry also went solo for a completely different event across the border in Canada.
Last week, Harry, who stepped down from royal duties in January 2020, attended several Invictus Games events in Vancouver. He was pictured getting stuck in, sitting on the floor while dressed casually in jeans and surrounded by children taking part.
Meghan and Harry are set to make public appearances together as a couple in February 2025, attending the Invictus Games in Canada. Meghan previously hinted that rarely-seen Archie and Lilibet might also attend with their parents, despite their current separation.
Meghan and Harry’s lack of closeness comes just a couple of years after she gushed over their relationship after their move to California.
"One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees," Meghan said as she pointed out what made them choose their Cali mansion. "See how they’re connected at the bottom? He goes, ‘My love, it’s us."
Meghan also spoke of something a friend’s mother once told her, which she thought reflected her romance with Harry.
“Salt and pepper are always passed together, you never move one without the other,” she said, adding: "That’s me and Harry. We’re like salt and pepper. We always move together."
