Manchester United ticket farce means Ruben Amorim's home debut will feature double number of away fans
Manchester United have handed a huge number of tickets to the travelling support of Bodo/Glimt ahead of Thursday night's Europa League clash - which will be Ruben Amorim's first home game
Ruben Amorim's home debut as Manchester United manager will see twice the usual number of away fans at Old Trafford.
Thursday night will see the new boss emerge in front of his home fans for the first time as United host Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League, where they need a win to climb the table after a slow start to their European campaign.
Amorim and his players will likely face a lot more noise from the away section than usual however with the huge interest in Norway resulting in the visitors being given 6,000 tickets for the fixture - roughly double the amount typically given to opponents.
When tickets for this match went on sale two months ago, Bodo’s initial allocation of 3,800 sold out in 15 minutes, but there was still 12,000 people waiting in the queue. Talks were held with the Manchester outfit who then opted to considerably expand the away section, reports the Daily Mail.
Bodo's own stadium holds little over 8,000 and the fact they're bringing so many fans speaks to the level of interest there is for United in Norway, where former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hails from.
Old Trafford bosses will also be wise to the ticket issues they've had in the past, particularly in Europe. They have seen away fans infiltrating home sections of the stadium, not least when around 2,000 Galatasaray fans managed to obtain tickets in United areas for their Champions League match next year.
The Norwegian outfit are narrowly above United in the Europa League standings, leading them by a point, but will be heavy underdogs when they make the trip to the north west of England.
Amorim drew his first match in charge on Sunday as the Red Devils were pegged back by Ipswich Town despite taking an early lead. The new manager has been quick to introduce his 3-4-3 system, but he knows that it will take time for his players to truly embrace it effectively.
He said after the draw at Portman Road: "This is the first point, when we make a new structure and we are so clear on that, they need time to have some fluidity in the game. I felt that, but it is [just] two training [sessions] and they did OK."
