This week, McGuigan took the step of entering the I'm A Celebrity! jungle and has already gone toe-to-toe with a literal tonne of creepy-crawleys.
On day two of the show, McGuigan opened up to camp about the death of his daughter Danika (Nika), who passed away in 2019 after a second brave battle with cancer.
“She had leukaemia, when I was making the movie The Boxer with Daniel Day Lewis, three weeks from the end I had to leave because she’d been diagnosed with leukaemia, they thought she wasn’t going to get better but she fought back and she won it.
On her second bout with the disease, McGuigan said:
“It was hard for weeks in the hospital, just watching, shocking,”
“Stage 4 bowel cancer, five weeks, five weeks she died.”
Nika was Barry's only daughter. He has three sons, Shane, Jake and Blain.
Shane is perhaps the best known out of McGuigan's three sons as he has had a successful career as a boxing coach and has worked with the likes of Carl Frampton, Chantelle Cameron and Daniel Dubois over the years.
By his side throughout all the ups and downs has been Sandra Mealiff, the love of Barry's life.
The pair were childhood sweethearts and tied the knot in 1981. The loving couple now in Kent where they enjoy a quiet life.
