Gardai release 99 high quality

These are just some of the people gardai want to identify in connection with the notorious Dublin riots.

The force has today made the unprecedented move of releasing 99 images of people it wants to speak to over the disturbances in the capital on November 23 last year – that cost millions of euro in damage.

More than 50 people have so far been charged over the major Garda probe into the orgy of destruction – but officers have now published a photo gallery of men and women they have been unable to identify. And they want the public’s help to find them.

Gardai have today published a special section of the force’s website – showing images taken from CCTV and other cameras around the capital.

A special investigation team based at Store Street Garda Station has been probing the large scale incident of public disorder since it erupted last year and have now taken the decision to publish images of people it wants to identify in relation to the disturbances.

A Garda spokesman appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

He said: “An Garda Síochána update in advance of first anniversary of Serious Public Disorder, Dublin City Centre, November 23rd, 2023.

Chief Superintendent Patrick McMenamin talks to media.

“On the 23rd November 2023 a large scale public disorder incident occurred over a number of hours across a widespread area in Dublin City.

“As part of the investigation over 17,000 hours of CCTV footage has been analysed by An Garda Síochána.

“57 persons have already been arrested in this investigation.

“An Garda Síochána is now requesting the assistance of the general public in identifying each ‘Persons of Interest’’ to either rule these ‘Persons of Interest’ ‘in or out’ of the investigative process.”

Some 57 people have already been arrested over the probe and 53 have been charged – but the probe is ongoing.

The Garda move to release images comes as the first person pleaded guilty over the riots investigation.

Gardai this morning stressed that they wanted to both rule in and out anyone in the images.

And they appealed for anyone in the images to come forward and contact gardai themselves.

Declan Donaghey (28), of Williams Place Upper, Dorset Street, Dublin, pleaded guilty at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on Monday to arson, violent disorder, criminal damage and rioting on November 23, 2023.

He threw a burning box into a patrol car and attacked a migrant centre during the Dublin riots said he was angry because “a close relative” was in the school where stabbings had taken place earlier in the day.

Donaghey said he was “not a racist” but that he had a close relation in the school in Cavendish Row where there had been stabbings earlier that day.

The court heard it was in fact his partner’s cousin’s child who attended the school and was uninjured.

In a handwritten letter read to the court Donaghey apologised “to the government and everyone involved”.

Judge Orla Crowe remanded Donaghey in custody pending sentence on Wednesday.
