Gardaí have launched separate investigations after a weekend of carnage on the Irish roads left three men dead.

The victims died in accidents in Offaly, Cork and Kerry. The first victim passed away after an incident near Mallow in Cork. The collision happened near Mallow at approximately 5 pm. Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene at Cecilstown.

The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 20s, had sustained fatal injuries. He has been named locally as Brandon O’Connell Walsh who lived in Dromagh, Cork but was originally from Banteer.

Speaking about the incident local Councillor Ian Doyle (FF) said “It’s tragic, no question about it. Our hearts go out to the family.”

Paying tribute, local GAA club Dromtariffe GAA said ‘’Our deepest condolences to Susan & Denis, Christian, Charlie & Luke & all Brandon's family & friends on his very sad and untimely death’’.

Another local described him as ‘’a kind but strong and determined young man’’. A former schoolmate wrote’’

The memories of our school days both primary and secondary, will last forever. You always put a smile on everyone’s face. Gone way too soon, but you will never be forgotten & we’ll meet again someday. Rest in heavenly peace Brandon x’’

Brandon is survived by his parents Susan and Tony and brothers Christian, Charlie, Luke and Anthony. His funeral arrangements will be announced tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a young male the driver of the second car was rushed via ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

His injuries have been described as serious. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. In addition, road users who may have dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the incident are also urged to contact Gardaí.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision at Cecilstown, Co.Cork this evening, Friday, 15 November. The collision involved two cars and occurred at approximately 5:10pm.

“The driver in one of these cars, a man aged in his 20s, was fatally injured. The driver of the second car, a man aged in his 20s, has been taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment. His injuries are described as serious.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

Meanwhile, Gardaí are also probing the death of a man in an accident in Co Offaly. The victim, who was in his 40s, suffered serious injuries in Thursday’s crash near Tullamore, and lost his fight for life on Saturday.

Gardaí said the accident happened on the Rahan Road. The force said in a statement: “Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 8:15am and 9:15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057 932 7600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

And a man in his 20s died in an incident in Kerry early on Sunday. It happened at Ballinskelligs at around 2am.

The driver of a van was seriously injured and brought to University Hospital Kerry, where he later died.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses. It said in a statement: “Two other occupants of the van were assessed at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.

“The scene of the collision remains preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators (FCI) and local traffic diversions are in place.

“Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to this collision to come forward. Additionally, any road users with dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the incident are asked to contact investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station 064 6671160, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
