Neil Morrissey's former hotel 'at risk of being set on fire by illegal squatters'

A luxury spa hotel once owned by Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey is at risk of being burned down by squatters according to concerned locals.
The Corran Resort and Spa Carmarthen in Laugharne, west Wales, is a 21 bedroom hotel which has an indoor swimming pool, expansive garden area, a spa and wellness centre complete with treatment rooms. However, it has been dormant since 2021 and online booking websites list it as "unavailable".
The establishment was reportedly closed three years ago after running costs made it unprofitable. TV star Neil, 62, bought up a number of properties in Laugharne, beginning in 2004, including the hotel - which was called the Hurst Hotel when he bought it. However, Neil's investments did not go well and his controlling company went into administration in 2009 - by which point the hotel had already passed on to new owners.

The hotel is now said to be owned by a company called Upper Street Holdings which is based in the Seychelles. However, the building is now said to be occupied by squatters - and locals fear they may try to burn down the property if they are made to move.
A local told The Sun that they had been welcomed into the property by the leader of the squatting group and they were left concerned by what they witnessed inside. The local told the publication: “He took me upstairs and everywhere I looked there were scrunched-up sheets of paper - many of them clients’ records from the spa - and it looked like he was preparing for a fire if he gets thrown out. He is making everyone around here very nervous. He throws these noisy outdoor parties round a huge fire with music playing all through the night and people running around like they’re off their heads.”
Online, the hotel is described as: "The Corran Resort & Spa Carmarthen features 21 rooms with an adjoining terrace and a seating area, furnished with a sofa and a writing desk. Guests can make use of tea and coffee making equipment, and relax with a flat-screen TV."
Neil had an unfortunate experience of running the hotel - which he owned until 2008. Locals were said to be thrilled when the TV star snapped up three properties in the area, sparking hopes the move would prompt a flood of tourists to visit and major stars including Mick Jagger and Pierce Brosnan were among guests at the venue in it's heyday.
After buying the hotel for £670,000 - with the venue said to be where Dylan Thomas got the inspiration for his classic work Under Milk Wood - locals were reportedly not happy when he tried to sell it for £1.5 million four years after he bought it. A local who operated a nearby BnB told the Express in 2007: "Neil is quite a pleasant fellow and a likeable lad but I don't think he knows what's going on. They have upset so many people. There's a huge distrust of them. They were taken to court over a beer bill and nobody locally will supply them."
