Drogheda United v Bray Wanderers LIVE score updates from Premier Division promotion play-off
Drogheda United v Bray Wandere

Drogheda United take on Bray Wanderers this afternoon with a place in next year's League of Ireland Premier Division up for grabs.

Dundalk have already been relegated to the first division, with Cork City taking their place after a remarkable campaign that saw them lose just two games all season.

The Drogs seemed destined for the drop for much of the season, but a late surge coupled with Dundalk's collapse saw them edge off the bottom of the table to give them a fighting chance at survival.

A week ago, Kevin Doherty's side were the toast of the Aviva Stadium as they beat Derry to win the FAI Cup. That success will be diminished if they don't get the job done in Tallaght this afternoon.

Wanderers on the other hand finished fifth in the first division but have navigated the play-offs masterfully and are just 90 minutes away from a return to the top-flight.

Kick-off is set for 2pm, with Virgin Media showing the game live on TV.

Good afternoon and welcome to the blog as Drogheda take on Bray for a place in next year's Premier Division. Last week, the Drogs were lifting the FAI Cup at the Aviva Stadium, and manager Kevin Doherty was speaking about the magnitude of the achievement:

“We’ve had some really good performances this year, and beaten some big sides, but hopefully we’ll have an even bigger one next weekend.

“I didn’t plan on crying on national TV. You can’t hide from your emotions, especially when you’re true to yourself and I was dying for her to get on. I was sitting over the far side last year, looking at Jon Daly with his daughters when St Pat’s won the cup and I texted him afterwards. There’s no point saying the family stuff doesn’t matter, because just look at it out there.

“The sacrifice your family makes, my wife Laura is a tower of strength. Her father has not been well, but she can smile and be happy for a while with this.

“The players have been so focused and there’s not a harder working group. These lads are working day jobs, but they come to Aviva Stadium and win a cup final like that? It’s absolutely ridiculous what we’ve gone and done.”
