Jurgen Klopp has made a surprising return to football - just months after his emotional Liverpool farewell.

The German ended his nine-year Anfield reign at the end of last season, handing over the keys to Arne Slot. His departure was greeted with tributes from Reds fans around the globe who thanked him for his tremendous achievements on Merseyside, namely success in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Having announced that he'd be taking a much-needed break after leaving Liverpool, only four months passed before the 57-year-old took up his first new role post-Anfield.Mirror Football takes a detailed look inside Klopp's latest role in football, on top of his life in and out of the sport that he's left an indelible mark on.

New job

Klopp left Liverpool at the end of last season

The German was announced as Red Bull's new 'Global Head of Soccer' on Wednesday (October 9), marking his return to football following his departure from Liverpool last summer.

While the new role is a step away from his usual managerial duties, he certainly has his hands full once he begins the job on January 1st. Klopp will oversee Red Bull's network of clubs including Salzburg, New York Red Bulls, RB Leipzig and Red Bull Bragantino.

While he'll not be involved in day-to-day operations of individual clubs, his role will consist of him offering support to sporting directors to leverage his vast footballing network to help in the scouting of the sport's top talent. He'll also contribute to the training and development of coaches.

Whopping net worth

Klopp was regularly among the world's highest-paid managers during his tenure at Liverpool, with Celebrity Net Worth measuring his net worth at £41.8million ($50million).

According to Sport, Klopp's annual salary at Anfield was £18.5m a year. On top of his hefty salary, the German also inked lucrative sponsorship deals with the likes of Opel, Erdinger, VR-Bank, Snickers, Deutsche Vermogensberatung, and formerly Puma. Klopp is now an ambassador for Adidas and has been seen sporting their apparel on his Instagram account.

Relationship with wife

Jurgen Klopp and wife Ulla have been together for a long time

Effortlessly devoted to his wife Ulla Sandrock, the pair got hitched in 2005 and the German author has been a constant presence by Klopp's side throughout his Liverpool tenure.

Ulla has been – and remains – the most important factor in any decision Klopp takes. She even received a special mention when the Liverpool legend opened up about the importance of his marriage after signing a contract extension with the club in 2022.

He said: "What is very important and is probably the most important - because I could not work against that and wouldn't want to work against it - is that my family, in this case especially Ulla, she just loves it here. The most important contract in my life I signed is the one with Ulla."

Liverpool promise

As Liverpool's most successful manager of the modern era, Klopp didn't need to do anything extra to cement his legacy with Reds fans. But he only added to his aura when he promised that he'd never manage another English club aside from Liverpool.

"What I know definitely — I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent," he said to The Athletic. That’s not possible. My love for this club, my respect for the people is too big. I couldn’t. I couldn’t for a second think about it. There’s no chance.

"This is part of my life, we are part of the family, we feel home here. There’s no chance to do that."

Properties

The ex-Liverpool boss bought the Balearic Island villa back in 2022

During his Liverpool stay, Klopp lived in a luxury mansion in Formby. The property, which was once owned by Steven Gerrard, was subsequently bought by Klopp's predecessor, Brendan Rodgers, who initially rented it to the German. Liverpool themselves then purchased the property and the former Borussia Dortmund boss continues to live there.

Situated on one of Merseyside's most expensive roads, Victoria Road, which is often branded "Millionaires Row," the mansion has seven-bedrooms, three living rooms, a home cinema, an indoor swimming pool and a landscaped garden. Klopp swapped the lavish home earlier this year for a picturesque villa in Santa Ponsa, Mallorca, which he forked out £3.4million for back in 2022.

Switching the less than enjoyable English weather for the consistently sunny climate in Spain is quite the trade as Klopp is said to have built an 'ecological paradise' in the Spanish island. German newspaper Bild revealed the low energy house has a state-of-the-art air conditioning, heating and irrigation systems which aim to drastically reduce electricity consumption by 75%, all controlled by a mobile device.
