Tyrrell Hatton has jumped back into the top-20 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), having seen his name drift down the list following his move to LIV Golf.

Hatton followed in the footsteps of his Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm earlier this year, making the Saudi switch to join Legion XIII. Whilst the Englishman enjoyed a succesful start to life on the LIV circuit, winning once and finishing fourth in the season-long standings, but it did no favours for his world ranking.

As has been the case since the league's inception in June 2022, the breakaway league continues to host its events without world ranking points on offer, having seen applications to the OWGR turned down amid its format.

This has seen a whole host of LIV stars slump down the rankings, with Hatton becoming one of the latest. In recent months the former world No. 5 started to drift towards losing his spot in the top-50 but a return to the DP World Tour in recent weeks has done him plenty of favours.

Hatton started the month ranked 38th in the world, but his third victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Sunday at St Andrews saw him make an important move into 20th. While the legitimacy of the OWGR list has been questioned by many amid its exclusion of LIV, it remains hugely important to those wanted to compete at the four majors, especially Hatton.

A top-10 finish at the Masters this year ensured he will be able to return to Augusta National in 2025, but to compete at the The Open Championship and US Open, the Englishman will need to be in the top-50 and top-60 respectively when each competition's qualification process.

His victory in Scotland last week will have gone a long way to making sure he is on the right side of the qualification line come next summer, however he will no doubt need some help along the way away from the LIV setup. This is where his win at the Dunhill Links once again helps things.

Victory at the Home of Golf ensured Hatton qualified for both the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and DP World Tour Championship in November, two of the DP World Tour's biggest events of the season. As well as the boost of earning world ranking points, Hatton will also help his chances of qualifying for next year's Ryder Cup.

"I knew when I came back to play the British Masters and the Spanish Open last week, that I really wanted to earn enough points to be able to play in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from a World Ranking points perspective and a Ryder Cup points perspective," he claimed after being crowned champion last weekend.
