Tyrrell Hatton's priceless three-word reaction after dad sinks put at Alfred Dunhill
Tyrrell Hatton was in action at the Alfred Dunhill Links Team Championship in Scotland over the weekend alongside his father, Jeff - and the pair enjoyed some success on the greens and fairways of Scotland
Tyrrell Hatton couldn't believe it when his father Jeff nailed a birdie net eagle putt at the Dunhill Links Team Championship.
The English golf star, aged 32, paired up with his dad for the prestigious event across St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarn in Scotland, where they aimed to outclass the competition. Despite finishing just shy of winners Dermot Desmond and Thorbjorn Olesen by a mere two strokes, Tyrrell and his father enjoyed an exceptional tournament.
But the standout moment was undoubtedly at the conclusion of Friday's second round. As Jeff prepared for a lengthy birdie net eagle try on Carnoustie's 18th hole, spectators braced for a near-miss only to see him spectacularly hole the shot.
The memorable moment circled online after the DP World Tour posted a clip showing Jeff's delighted reaction and commentators noting: "Tyrrell just looks up at the heavens - he can't believe that went in." The camera caught Tyrrell's astonishment, as he exclaimed: "Oh my god," seemingly overwhelmed by emotion.
Although Desmond and Olesen claimed victory on Sunday with a -48 under par in challenging weather, Tyrrell also stood out in the concurrent individual competition, reports the Express. The pro kicked off the Dunhill Links Championship with a bang, carding a seven-under-par on Thursday and ramping it up to 11-under by Friday.
Come Saturday, Hatton was on fire, notching his score up to an impressive 22-under after sinking four birdies within the first eleven holes. Despite leading Nicolas Colsaerts by just one stroke as they headed into the final round, Hatton's chances seemed to wobble after a double bogey on the 13th and a bogey on the 14th allowed the Belgian back into contention.
But a composed birdie on the last hole clinched Hatton his third title at the event, adding to his wins in 2016 and 2017. Having his dad there to witness the triumph made it all the more poignant for Hatton, who shared: "It's the first time I've actually won the tournament with my dad here so it means a lot and to do it at the home of golf is really special.
"I'm trying not to cry, to be honest. I'm a bit lost for words." Since moving to LIV Golf in January, Hatton has been playing alongside big names like Jon Rahm, Kieran Vincent, and Caleb Surratt in the Legion XIII team, currently trailing Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers GC in the LIV 2024 standings.
