An Aer Lingus flight bound for Dublin Airport was forced to make an emergency return to London's Heathrow Airport on Monday night.

The flight, EI179, had only just taken off at around 9pm on Monday when it had to turn back after signalling an emergency, reports Dublin Live.

It is understood that the plane suffered a left engine failure at 15,000 feet. Passengers on board shared the news with @Shauns_Aviation on social media site X.

The aircraft had to land on a separate runway and has since been inspected by operations vehicles at the terminal stand. Aer Lingus has been contacted for comment.
