Alan Shearer and Kamala Harris - the strike partnership no one was expecting.

As the November presidential election nears, Donald Trump's rival, current US vice-president Harris, is ramping up her campaign alongside running mate Tim Walz. And what would a modern political campaign be without TikTok?

It's 2024 after all.

In a bizarre link-up, Harris and Walz's team have used Shearer's commentary from this summer's European Championship to help secure votes. In a 16-clip which begins with rather unflattering images of Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, Shearer's commentary from after England beat Switzerland on penalties in the quarter-finals can be heard.

After England star Trent Alexander-Arnold had slammed home the winner, Newcastle legend Shearer proclaimed live on the BBC : " [Cole] Palmer, [Jude] Bellingham, [Bukayo] Saka, [Ivan] Toney, Trent. Pressure? What pressure?

"Pressure is for tyres! It's a different generation. They don't feel it. How confident were they? They had the belief. They somehow found the energy."

Harris and Walz's team contrasted the images of Trump and Vance with pictures of the Democratic duo looking celebratory and smiling at various public events. Within 10 hours, the post garnered nearly 100,000 likes on TikTok.

The same audio of Shearer speaking was used heavily on the social media platform in the aftermath of England's win in July and it's already gone down as an iconic piece of commentary. But he almost didn't go that route, as the former Premier League striker later explained on the Rest is Football podcast : "It just felt right. Pressure is for tyres.

"It was either that or I feel a semi coming, but I don't think the BBC would have been too happy with that one."

England made it to the final of Euro 2024 but ultimately couldn't beat their opposition, something which Harris and Walz hope to avoid come November 5. The polls, though, show Trump leading or tied with Harris in a number of crucial swing states, some of which he lost to Joe Biden in 2020, ousting him from the White House.

Walz and Vance took part in their one and only vice-presidential debate on Tuesday night, with the majority of pundits suggesting that Vance fared better. No further TV debates are planned between any candidates before next month's election.
