Lee Carsley has received a boost to his chances of being appointed England manager on a full-time basis.

Carsley is currently in interim charge of the Three Lions after Gareth Southgate stood down following Euro 2024. He has already led England to two victories and is hoping to pick up two more when his side takes on Greece and Finland in the Nations League later this month.

And Sky Sports are reporting that the Football Association (FA) have not made any contact with Jurgen Klopp, Graham Potter, Eddie Howe or Thomas Tuchel as part of their search for Southgate's successor.

All four managers have been linked with the vacancy and, despite the fact Klopp, Potter and Tuchel are currently out of work, the FA have not yet made an approach for any of them which will 'further boost the likelihood of Carsley getting the England job long-term'.

When asked about the prospect of taking on the role full-time after England's wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland last month, Carsley said: "I am up for it. I think I am up for it. I think I'm very grounded.

"The most important thing about this job is the football for me, making sure we create a good environment for the players to perform in. It's been a good week. I think like all these things, when you have such a build-up to it, you play it out in your mind on how it's going to go.

"It definitely couldn't have gone any better in terms of the way the players responded to some of the concepts that we tried to put in place, the way that the new players have gelled with the older ones. It's been an all-round positive camp."

Graham Potter

Potter, who has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in April, was also asked about the vacancy in a recent appearance on Monday Night Football. "As an Englishman, of course it's a fantastic job but I'm supportive of whatever the FA decide to do and whoever the coach is," he replied.

"I think Gareth did a fantastic job and I'm sure Lee - for however long it is - will do really well. I'm open to anything, to be honest. I've had a fantastic journey over the last 12 years from the fourth tier of Swedish football to the last eight of the Champions League.

"I would like to spend the next 12 years in the same position, developing players, teams, working with people and making a difference. Wherever that is, I'm open to everything."
