Tens of thousands more viewers continue to tune out of The Late Late Show, RTE has revealed.

The chat show, which returned for a new season in September, saw its first episode attract an average audience of 441,000. The second episode had an average audience of 399,000 viewers.

But RTE has revealed a further 31,000 tuned out of watching the Friday night show, hosted by Patrick Kielty last week.

This makes a total of 73,000 tuning out since the show returned to our screens three weeks ago.

A spokesman for RTE said: "Friday night’s Late Late Show was watched by an average audience of 368,000 on RTÉ One and RTÉ One+1. It was watched by 39% of the available audience on RTÉ One. Friday's show has generated over 30,000 streams on RTÉ Player over the weekend.

"Across RTÉ social platforms which featured Rhasidat Adeleke and The Script this week, The Late Late Show has had over 4.4 million video views across all content and 215,000 engagements, up on previous weeks."

On Friday, viewers were blown away by Patrick’s interview with Olympian Adeleke, who paid a touching tribute to her mum.

The Tallaght athlete appeared on Friday night's show while her former teacher, Ms Lunny, and her proud mum Ade looked on from the audience.

And Rhasidat told host Patrick about the great lengths Ade went for her so she could achieve her Olympic dream.

She said: "She gave us that stepping stone. She would always make sure we had everything we need.

"She would swap shifts so she could take me to training and take me to my competitions. She just did so, so much and went above and beyond every single time to make sure that I could achieve my goals and live out my dream."

An emotional Ade paid tribute to her daughter, saying: "She's driven, focused and determined since she was growing up." And Rhasidat revealed just how much her mum had taken care of her as she explained some of the challenges she faced when moving to college in Texas at the age of 18.

"The biggest thing was trying to get used to having my mam do everything for me," she said: "She literally did everything for me growing up as I said. So I had to figure out how to do my laundry, I didn't know where the pods went, I had to ask."

The running superstar also opened up on her meeting with Rihanna, who it turns out has been one of Rhasidat's biggest fans for a long time. She said: "I knew that she followed me on Instagram two years ago after the World Championships in 2022. I think she must have seen me somewhere and found me and followed me and I was like 'Oh Rihanna, that's so random' and I was like, 'Should I follow her back? Ah I'll follow back'.

"After that her team started reaching out to me, sending me products and sending me good luck notices for my races and stuff but I thought it was maybe her team and she didn't actually know who I was.

"Then I got the invite to the event and I was actually able to go because it wasn't during the season. When she saw me she couldn't believe that I was there and I didn't realise that she would actually know who I was because just because someone follows you on Instagram it doesn't mean they know who you are."

But Rihanna very much did know who she was and the pair were filmed sharing a fun-filled greeting at the event in London last week. Rhasidat added: "It was such a crazy moment for her to recognise me and be actually following my dream because she actually knew who I was and was following what I do so it was surreal."

Viewers were loving the Olympian's appearance on the show, hailing her as an "inspiration". One woman wrote on X: "What an inspiration Rhasidat Adeleke is to young women. Her wee mammy holding back tears talking about her growing up and her achievements is just (heart emoji)."

Another added: "Incredibly talented, down to earth, fabulous personality & the pride of Ireland. Rhasidat Adeleke is an absolute gem." While a third wrote: "Rhasidat is so lovely a true champion & more medals will come. Such a lovely grounded young lady & so stylish too. Fun & friendly good on ya."
