Even global icons Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have sweet pet names for each other, with the Duchess of Sussex often heard calling her husband 'H'.

Meghan, 42, affectionately referred to Harry, 39, by this moniker during a FaceTime call on The Late Late Show with James Corden and throughout their revealing Netflix docuseries.

Reflecting on their whirlwind love story, Meghan shared: "I had a career, I had my life, I had my path, and then came H. Talk about a plot twist." The term of endearment 'H' was first made public in the 2019 documentary Harry and Meghan: An African Journey, which aired before the couple stepped back from royal duties.

In the documentary, Meghan expressed her philosophy to Harry, saying: "I've said for a long time to H-that's what I call him-[that] it's not enough to just survive something, right? That's not the point of life. You've got to thrive, you've got to feel happy."

But there's another nickname in the mix; in their Netflix series, Meghan divulged that she has Harry listed in her phone as 'Prince Haz', a name he was known by to the friend who originally set them up. Harry has made it clear that the pet name "Haz" is reserved for Meghan alone, having once cheekily told James Corden not to use it. In a light-hearted moment in 2021, Corden quipped: "Haz? I didn't know we were calling you 'Haz' now," and Harry retorted: "You're not my wife."

Even within the Royal Family, affectionate nicknames are a sweet tradition. Over time, various royals have accidentally let slip their personal monikers, from the Princess of Wales to Queen Camilla.

The beloved late Queen Elizabeth II was fondly referred to as Lilibet by her nearest and dearest, including her husband Prince Philip. Honouring this intimate nickname, Harry and Meghan chose the name Lilibet for their daughter, paying homage to the late monarch who was affectionately called 'Granny' and 'Gan Gan' by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

During their courtship, King Charles and Queen Camilla also had endearing aliases for one another. Charles was 'Fred' and Camilla 'Gladys', which served both as terms of endearment and a means to keep their relationship under wraps. Additionally, Charles is said to have given Meghan the nickname 'Tungsten', inspired by her resilient and steadfast nature, much like the durable metal.

Prince William, affectionately known as Wills, was also dubbed 'Wombat' and 'Basher Wills' by his mother Diana after a trip to Australia. His three children - George, Charlotte and Louis - fondly refer to him as 'Papa' or 'Pops'. Meanwhile, his wife Kate earned the nickname 'Squeak' from her school friends, while her sister Pippa was known as Pip.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have also bestowed adorable nicknames on their three children. It has been revealed that Prince George is referred to as 'Tips', inspired by the popular tea brand PG Tips to coincide with his PG initials. Princess Charlotte goes by 'Mignonette' and 'Lottie', while Prince Louis is lovingly called 'Lou-bugs'.
