Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez has revealed he is open to a crossover bout against Conor McGregor, claiming the potential fight would be "very easy money" for him.

Canelo and McGregor traded barbs last month, with the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion stating on social media: "Canelo is a cornflake. He has about 300k [pay-per-view] buys in him. He does not generate nothing near what he seeks to be paid. UFC Noche is going to run them from the strip. Sheikh Turki was right moving on. Canelo doesn't sell."

Canelo, whose upcoming fight against Edgar Berlanga is going head-to-head with UFC 306, then hit back at McGregor. "He's helping Dana White to sell for the UFC. That's why he's saying that, but he knows he's my son," he told Abraham Gonzalez. And Canelo is now talking up a potential fight with McGregor, telling Manouk Akopyan : "Yeah, why not? Then we'll show boxing is better. Easy, easy. Very easy money… [I knock him out] at the time I want. One round, two rounds, three rounds - whatever I want."

McGregor notably moved into boxing in 2017 for a hugely lucrative fight against Floyd Mayweather, who is one of only men to have ever beaten Canelo. Mayweather beat McGregor via TKO in the tenth round. McGregor has since returned to the UFC, but he has not fought since 2021 when he broke his leg in a fight against rival Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. The Irishman was set to return to the octagon in June to take on Michael Chandler at UFC 303.

However, the fight was ultimately cancelled after McGregor suffered a broken toe, with UFC president Dana White stating that the bout has now been pushed back to "early 2025". Speaking to the New York Post, White said: "I was the one this year saying I don't think he's going to fight this year. With all the talk and everything else. Even with the fight being set up and the press conference. Conor McGregor will fight next year, early 2025. As far as the hunger, he’s a very wealthy guy, we’ll find out when he comes back."
