Jake Paul's camp have fired back at Eddie Hearn after the boxing promoter called the YouTuber's fight against Mike Tyson " a freak show " - as the pair get ready for their lucrative showdown later this year.

Paul and heavyweight legend Tyson shocked the sport by announcing they were set to lock horns in a money-spinning fight at the AT&T Stadium in Texas before their summer contest was moved to November 15 after "Iron Mike" suffered a bout of dizziness while on a flight and ordered to rest by his doctors.

The fight, which is set to be aired on Netflix in a first for the streaming giant, has received a torrent of criticism from fans and boxing figures - with Hearn one of the most vocal critics after previously claiming it was "sad" to see the iconic 58-year-old get back into the ring with a man who is 30 years his junior.

His most recent comments saw Hearn slam the fight once again, insisting it would be a "travesty" if Paul knocked out Tyson and that true boxing fans didn't want to witness the event.

Paul's manager Nakisa Bidarian - who runs the fighter's Most Valuable Promotions firm - has hit back at Hearn's comments, accusing him of hypocrisy after putting his fighter Katie Taylor on the undercard for the Paul vs Tyson event and arranging a fight between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou earlier this year.

"Keep getting sent these articles on Eddie Hearn taking shots at Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson," he said in an Instagram post. "How, if you're involved you have no empathy for the sport, how he'd never be involved in a million years.

"Eddie, you're involved, man. Involved in a big way. Katie Taylor, your most celebrated fighter, is the co-main event and it's her biggest payday as you know.

"It's funny. I remember when Francis Ngannou was fighting Tyson Fury, you were out there saying, 'This is a circus. This is a clown show. This shouldn't be happening.'

"But as soon as the opportunity came for you to be involved with Anthony Joshua versus Francis Ngannou, you were running so fast to sign that contract and make a talk about, 'Oh, this is a real fight. Oh, it's such a big deal.'"

Hearn, who is preparing for star fighter Joshua to face Daniel Dubois in a world title fight on September 21, responded to Bidiarian's post by saying: "There’s a bit of a big difference. Francis was an active UFC fighter who basically beat (IMO) Tyson Fury. That win gave him all the credibility he needed. Mike is in his 50’s and 20 years ago he was shot as a fighter."

Internet personality Paul has been involved in a number of high-profile fights in his career, most recently picking up wins against former UFC stars Nate Diaz and Anderson Silva. He has a total of ten victories, with one loss coming against Tommy Fury - the brother of former heavyweight world champion Tyson - last year.
