Jack Grealish was greeted with boos by Irish fans on his return to Dublin.

The Manchester City star represented Ireland at youth level from 2011-2014 before deciding to represent England at senior level, finally making his debut in 2020.

And while he didn’t go as far as Declan Rice, who made three appearances for Ireland at senior level in 2019, Grealish’s past in an Irish shirt wasn’t forgotten as many fans inside the Aviva Stadium gave the former Aston Villa winger plenty of stick during his first few possessions on Saturday evening.

When his name was called out over the PA system during the warm-up, the crowd inside the Aviva showered the City winger with boos.

And when the game began, the full crowd inside the Aviva gave Grealish a proper piece of their mind.

Grealish wasn’t the only English player to draw the ire of the crowd, with the aforementioned Rice also getting plenty of stick from those in attendance.

While the Aviva faithful were keen to give Rice and Grealish a piece of their mind, assistant manager John O’Shea earlier this week insisted that his team would park the drama regarding Rice and Grealish and focus on the task at hand.

Asked if he ever wondered what an Ireland team would be like with Rice still in it, O’Shea said: “No, not at all.

“It's a focus on us and the players that are here and the players who want to be here. It's as simple as that.

“He's not here, he's in the England squad, so we can't keep talking about it.”
