Man arrested after suspected stabbing in Cork city centre
A man in his 30s suffered serious injuries after an altercation in Cork on Friday afternoon
Gardai have arrested a man after the suspected stabbing incident that occurred in Cork city centre yesterday, September 6.
Yesterday afternoon, shortly after 5pm, a man aged in his 30s is understood to have suffered serious injuries following an incident at the junction of Grand Parade and Oliver Plunkett Street. Early indications suggest that the injuries, which are serious but not life-threatening, are consistent with stab or slash wounds.
The injured party was transported to Cork University Hospital for treatment, while Gardai last night issued a witness appeal for more information.

CorkBeo reports that the injured man entered a cafe in the area displaying several deep cuts to his head, arms, back and stomach. The report adds that the alleged attackers used a hatchet or similar bladed weapon to inflict the injuries.
Technical and forensic examinations of the scene were completed yesterday evening and a man has since been arrested in connection with the incident.
Confirming that investigations remain ongoing, a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Irish Mirror: "Gardaí have arrested a man, in relation to the serious assault that occurred at the junction of Grand Parade and Oliver Plunkett Street shortly after 5pm on Friday 6th September, 2024.
"The man, aged in his 20s was arrested this morning, Saturday 7th September, 2024 and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice at a Garda station in Cork City."
