There was a sense among those backing blue that Rangers could use their underdog status as a base to spring a shock against Celtic.

But the near unanimous verdict that Celtic would defeat their biggest rivals proved correct and it was the manner of the latest victory which should worry Philippe Clement and backers of his side. Brendan Rodgers – who has lost once in 19 against Rangers – is large and in charge in this fixture once more.

Celtic are five points better off than Rangers after four games but, in truth, the verdict from Bothwell to Brazil is the same – the team who have won 12 out of the last 13 Premiership titles appear a surefire bet to do it again. And Clement and Co are enraging observers far beyond these shores, with some questioning their commitment to the cause. Irish Mirror takes the global temperature after the big game.

Vavel (Brazil)

"In a classic match, you expect a minimum of effort, but that's not what we saw from the Rangers team. The game was far from what it could have been, and it's worth considering the issue of attitude. A 3-0 win in a classic is a huge burden. The 3-0 victory shows how much Celtic has been able to dominate its opponents. It did not suffer in the game, managed to carry out its actions with great confidence and created extreme difficulties for the opponent."

Voetbal International (Netherlands)

"Reigning champions Celtic are still unbeaten this official season. In the five matches that were played, they also scored fifteen goals and conceded only one. They also recorded a clean sheet against Rangers and with the victory they put their direct rival, who already lost points, at a serious disadvantage in the Scottish title race."

Mais Futebol (Portugal)

"With Paulo Bernardo in the starting line-up, the home team were looking to maintain their unbeaten run in the league and in the most important game of the season in the country, the “Old Firm”. The clear highlight of the match was the performance of Daizen Maeda, who scored Celtic’s first goal and set up McGregor for the third, midway through the second half. By then the score was already 2-0, thanks to Furuhashi’s goal. This means Celtic remain in first place in the league with 12 points, the same as Aberdeen and now five points ahead of their eternal rivals, Rangers."

Goal (Brazil)

"Continuing a significant overhaul, the Gers are trying to not let the ball drop and threaten their rival's reign. But Celtic now lead the all-time series with 170 wins to Rangers' 169 and there have been 103 draws."

Terra (Brazil)

"This is considered the greatest rivalry in the world. After all, in addition to being super champions with almost all the fans and titles in the country, The favorites due to their greater technical quality and playing at home, Celtic took the lead in the first half, putting the score 2-0 on the scoreboard. Celtic continued to dominate the second half, but only managed to extend their lead in the 29th minute, with a beautiful goal. After receiving the ball from Maeda, captain McGregor cut through the defense, breaking into the center from the right and shooting past Butland. In the end, Rangers almost pulled one back, but veteran goalkeeper Schmeichel made a great save. In short, Celtic fans celebrated yet another victory."

Football 24/7 (Spain)

"Get excited, Celtic fans. In the end, your team defeated their biggest rivals, Rangers, once again. Celtic did not spare Rangers this Sunday (1/9), in the first Super Classic of the Scottish Championship season. In the fourth round match played at Celtic Park, the current national champions beat their arch-rivals 3-0, with goals from Maeda, Furuhashi and McGregor."
