Amanda Holden has explained the real reason behind her co-star Jamie Theakston's absence from Heart Radio today after fans grew concerned.

After a weekend break, listeners were greeted by Amanda, 53, and her temporary co-host Jason King, also known as JK, 49, while Jamie recovers at home following surgery.

Yesterday, the 53-year-old presenter informed his fans that he had a throat lesion removed after a string of coughing fits.

During Monday's show, JK, updated listeners on Jamie's condition, saying he "is not too good when it comes to his voice."

Amanda further explained: "For the last year, Jamie sort of coughs like an old geezer in the morning, he's been going [demonstrates noise], we've been going 'get it up Jamie, get it up'.

"Sometimes it's been on air. Anyway, Davina [McCall], who stood in for me while I was working, gave him a big cuddle and she sort of injured him slightly around the throat area.

"She gently... she got him in a head lock to say goodbye, she's very affectionate, we love Davina, but it hurt him!", reports the Express.

"So, he had to go to the doctors about it and then thankfully, because of Davina, he found that he had a little nodule on his voice box and he's had to have it removed."

Amanda Holden sent her well wishes to Jamie Theakston who remains off air, following surgery

She went on to say: "Obviously his voice is his job, so he's at home with his feet up with his two cats, two dogs, his loving wife, and two sons who are less loving than all of them."

"We know he's pretty poorly when he's not at work," JK remarked, which she seconded with: "He'll be in his element watching Netflix documentaries."

Jamie expressed gratitude towards his concerned fans in an Instagram post shared on Instagram on Sunday.

His message read: "Sooo - a few of you listeners have noticed my voice hasn't sounded right these past few weeks I've got you to thank.(sic)

"Got it checked Doctors found a lesion on my vocal cords which I've had removed this weekend thanks for all the kind messages should be back on my feet soon in the meantime," followed by a zipped-mouth emoji.

After seeing his update, Davina responded with: "Oh wow! ! ! ! ! Speedy recovery sweet cheeks x sending you big healing hugs."

Adding her thoughts, Amanda said: "We will miss you tomorrow."

Carol Vorderman joined in with some encouraging words writing: "Rest up you. See you back at Global soon. You have great listeners btw spotting that. Wow x."

And from This Morning, Sian Welby shared: "Get well soon Jamie!".
