Oasis mum Peggy Gallagher sold her west of Ireland holiday home because her sons didn't want her staying there on her own.

Liam and Noel were worried that at 81 year of age there was no one around Charlestown, Co Mayo to care for her if she suddenly got sick and especially after the Covid pandemic.

The proud Irish woman used to fly over and back for years alone every month and loved her Mayo home.

But in recent years as she got older she made fewer trips from Manchester and the house lay empty most of the time.

The house which was sold for over €300,000 a few weeks ago is 3 miles outside of the town.

However she had no one to drive her around and was seen in Charlestown less less during her private visits.

A friend said: "In recent years we'd hardly see Peggy here. I suppose she is getting older and decided to sell up because she was not getting the use out of the house that she used to be.

"The Covid pandemic changed things for a lot of people including Peggy.

"The last thing you want is to be stuck in isolation with no one calling to your door to see you.

"But also a lot of her old friends have passed on and most of her surviving family are living in England.

"I have no doubt Liam and Noel were worried about her being over in Ireland on her own and that probably made up her mind to sell."

It is several years since either Liam or Noel were in Charlestown although older brother Paul did travel over on his own to keep an eye on the place.

The Gallaghers built a modern house on the site and the residence fitted with high tech cameras and gates is extremely well looked after.

The source added:" Whoever bought it got a right bargain, fair play to them."

Local publican JJ Finan said local people were sad to see Peggy sell up but fully understood why.

He said: "She was just not around as much as she was years ago. She probably wants to be around her sons and her grandchildren who she adores."
