Liam Gallagher's 'snide' Noel theory comes true as reunion tour sells out

Liam Gallagher always believed Oasis would reunite with the help of some divine intervention and claimed that he would only put the band back together on his terms.

Just last year, Liam branded his brother "a stalker" and took aim at Noel Gallagher for being the one to walk away from Oasis. The Beady Eye rocker claimed his brother quit their band in 2009 in order to pursue a solo career and "threw his younger brother under the bus" in the process.

Liam also insisted Noel would be forced by the universe to be the one to pick up the phone and extend the olive branch if he wanted an Oasis reunion, and admitted he still "had the hump" with his brother over the "snide" way he split up their group.

Oasis fans saw their dreams come true on Tuesday when the band announced a 2025 tour after last performing together almost two decades ago. All of the UK and Ireland dates for Oasis's reunion tour sold out in less than a day, the band announced on Saturday, with millions of fans scrambling to get tickets.

Liam and Noel may be playing happy families these days and called a truce for the sake of their band but it wasn't too long ago the two brothers didn't have a good word to say about each other. Speaking on BBC Radio 2 in June 2023, Liam addressed the Oasis rumours swirling at the time as he called out his then estranged brother.

The dad-of-four shared a laugh with host Jo Whiley as he talked about how he celebrated Manchester City's 2023 treble win and addressed his viral tweet about reuniting Oasis if the team won the Champions League which they did in Istanbul just a few days prior to his chat with Jo.

Jo asked the Wonderwall hitmaker: "Are you friends with any of the [Manchester City] players?" To which Liam quipped, "Erm...no," adding, "I don't go for that me, man. I've met a few of them but I'm not like our kid [Noel] who's down there, stalking them every two minutes - in the dressing room naked after just putting a 90 minute shift in." He continued to distance himself from celebrity culture, stating, "I don't do that, as you know. I'm not a celebrity, lady of the night as they say. I keep myself to myself."

Before Manchester City's triumph over Inter Milan in the Champions League final earlier in the month, Liam had excited fans by tweeting: "If Man City wins the Champions League I call my brother and I bring back the f***in band together LG x." However, when Jo read the tweet back to him, Liam responded in jest: "I never said that."

Liam then disclosed, "Our kid has been called many times to get the band back together," hinting at the possibility of an Oasis comeback as the father-of-four reminisced. "It just so happens he wants it this time when he's got an album out, but he's been called many times about getting [Oasis] back together and the way I see it, he'll be calling me. He split the band up on his terms and I'll put it back together on my terms."

Liam continued: "I'm a reasonable person. I'm very good friends with the Universe and we have ways of making it happen as it will come round to him calling me. That is it. I think [an Oasis reunion] will happen." As Jo quizzed how Oasis broke up, Liam then recalled: "It was going too well for him and he wanted to be a solo star, that's the way I see it - no-one knew it was coming."

"You don't split bands up like that - it's a big thing. If he wanted to go do a solo career, I'd have quite happily had two years off, you know what I mean? So he just pulled the plug and I think that's snide. I've still got the hump with it as he threw his younger brother under the bus - I've got bills to pay as well and so did everyone else. We had dreams as well. So obviously I've still got the hump about it, so there you go."

Jo then mused how Liam and Noel's rift must be hard for their mother, but Liam shared at the time how Peggy Gallagher is "kind of over it". "She just thinks we're a pair of idiots," Liam told Radio 2 listeners last year. "The olive branch has been put out to him many a time," he added, but admitted he hasn't personally called his brother as he hasn't got Noel's number. "He will call me, I know he will, because the Universe will make him," the Don't Look Back in Anger hitmaker declared confidently.

Oasis called it quits back in 2009, with Noel announcing to his fans on 28 August: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer." The sibling rivalry came to an end on Tuesday as the brothers announced a 17-date UK and Ireland reunion tour for 2025, with tickets released for general sale at 9 am on Saturday.

Within hours of release, Oasis had to take to Twitter (X) to announce at 7 pm, "Oasis Live '25 UK and Ireland tickets have now sold out. Please be aware of counterfeit and void tickets appearing on the secondary market. Tickets can ONLY be resold, at face value, via @TicketmasterUK and @Twickets."

Fans had faced a frenzy trying to buy tickets, with websites such as Gigs and Tours and See Tickets crashing under the pressure, leading to frustration among eager supporters. Meanwhile, some hopeful concert-goers accused Ticketmaster UK and Ireland of blocking them for allegedly being "bots". Adding to the ticket turbulence, prices appeared to soar on Ticketmaster from roughly €175 to about €415 for some, leaving those who persevered through hours of waiting dumbfounded at the escalating costs for the iconic band's Oasis Live 25 gigs.

The website's justification for the steep "in-demand standing ticket" prices reads: "The event organiser has priced these tickets according to their market value. Tickets do not include VIP packages. Availability and pricing are subject to change." Meanwhile, Ticketmaster clarified to the PA news agency that they don't determine the ticket costs, directing attention to their website which explains that prices can be "fixed or market-based". It's understood that promoters, rather than artists, are responsible for setting ticket prices.
