Shane Lowry is in line for the biggest payday of his career if he can produce one more solid round of golf in the lucrative Tour Championship event.

The FedEx Cup finale is the richest event in all of golf with the winner scooping a massive $25,000,000. First place looks to be all but sewn up with Scottie Scheffler holding a commanding five-shot lead at the top.

But although Lowry might not be lifting the trophy as East Lake, he could be in line for the biggest payday of his career. Sitting in eighth place, the 2019 Open Champion would earn a whopping $2.25m for his week's work.

And Lowry is just four shots off third place and a big final round could see him earn up to $7.5m.

Starting the day in 13th place, Lowry made the turn in three-under-par having carded birdies on the third, sixth, and seven holes.

His sole blemish came on the par four 12th but four birdies on the back nine saw him card a field-best six-under-par 65 to rise up to eighth place.

Rory McIlroy was also in action on Saturday and is two shots behind Lowry. A three-time winner of the FedEx Cup, McIlroy carded a three-under-par 68.

The Holywood man started the day with back-to-back bogeys but bounced back with a couple of birdies on the front nine.

Four birdies and a bogey on the 16th meant McIlroy carded a three-under-par round and in a tie for 10th alongside Sunjae Im and Ludvig Aberg.
