Adele has devastated fans after issuing an update to her previous vow that she's ready to take time away from making music and performing.

The singer has just finished her run of Munich shows, which took place in a bespoke-designed portable arena in the German city.

But after finishing her last gig in the incredible venue, Adele admitted that she won't be seeing fans again any time soon. Speaking on stage to her audience, the record-breaking artist revealed: "I've got 10 shows to do, but after that I will not see you for an incredibly long time and I will hold you dear in my heart."

The 36-year-old, who recently got engaged to Rich Paul, is contracted to return to Las Vegas to complete her part-cancelled Caesars Palace residency, but after that, she's got no plans to continue in the music industry. In an interview with German public service broadcaster ZDF in July, she said: "I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things. Just for a little while."

Adele's move to the United States saw her announce a residency at Caesar's Palace Colosseum in Vegas, which was set to start in January 2022, but it was cancelled last minute, just the day before the opening. The move was put down to her team contracting Covid and she also cancelled 10 Vegas shows due to illness.

Fans were left furious, having spent thousands on flights and accommodation, as well as their tickets to see Adele perform. She addressed the situation at the start of her Munich run, telling fans: "I've been calm all week to the point my friends were worried something was wrong. There was that s**t show of me cancelling Vegas. I wouldn't be here if that didn't happen - I couldn't carry on if I'd done a show I didn't believe in."

After announcing the shows would be postponed, Adele apologised for the 'inconvenience' in a statement on Instagram, writing: "Sadly I have to take a beat and pause my Vegas residency. I was sick at the end of last leg and all through the break. I hadn’t quite gotten the chance to get back to full health before shows resumed and now I’m sick again and unfortunately it’s taken a toll on my voice.

"And so on doctor’s orders I’ve had to rest thoroughly. The remaining five weekends of this leg are being postponed to a later date. We are already working out the details and you will be sent the information asap."

Adele's residency will continue and run up until November 23 this year, with the star saying postponing the start date was the "worst moment" of her career, telling Elle magazine : "There was just no soul in it."

Adele expanded: "The stage setup wasn’t right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment. It was the worst moment in my career by far. I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating."
