Robbie Keane has paid tribute to Sven Goran Eriksson after the former England manager's death at the age of 76.

The World of football has been in mourning since Monday at the sad news that Eriksson had passed away following a long battle with cancer.

Tributes have flooded in from around the globe, with former England stars David Beckham and Wayne Rooney taking to social media to hail their former manager.

While Keane never played under Sven, he did take to Instagram on Monday afternoon to pay his respects to the Swede.

"RIP Sven, absolute gentleman" wrote Keane in an Instagram story.

After a modest playing career, Sven burst onto the managerial scene with Goteburg in 1979. He moved to Benfica in 1982 where he won the league three times and reached the final of the European and UEFA Cup.

Spells with Roma and Sampdoria followed in Italy where he won a Copa Italia with each club. He then joined Lazio in 1997 and enjoyed a trophy-laden four seasons at the Roman club before joining England in 2001. He led England to the quarter-finals stage at the World Cup in 2002 and 2006 as well as the Euros in 2004.

Known affectionately as Sven, Eriksson announced at the beginning of 2024 that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He fulfilled a lifelong dream when he managed Liverpool in a charity match at Anfield earlier this year.
