Noni Madueke has last laugh with hat-trick after being booed for "s***" Wolves jibe

Noni Madueke further endeared himself to Wolves fans by scoring a hat-trick for Chelsea after labelling their hometown “s***”.

Madueke accidentally wound up the Wolves faithful in the build-up to Chelsea’s Premier League game on Sunday afternoon through a blunder on social media. Writing on his Instagram story while tagging Wolverhampton as his location, the winger said: "Everything about this place is s***".

The comment was clearly not meant for public consumption, but that is exactly what happened. Madueke deleted the post and added: "Damn wrong Instagram account. You lot are too fast," but it was too late.

He was booed with regularity by Wolves fans at Molineux on Sunday afternoon, but it didn’t affect him as he ran riot in Chelsea’s 6-2 win. Cole Palmer assisted all three of his goals, which arrived within 14 minutes of each other in the second half.

Madueke put Chelsea 3-2 up with a deflected effort before slotting another underneath Jose Sa minutes later for his second as Wolves’ defence went missing. His hat-trick goal looked almost identical, with Palmer providing the pass for a low finish from the right-hand side of the box.

Those goals made it four in as many days for Madueke, who blasted one in during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Servette at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night. He looked delighted in his celebrations, which ensured a perfect day out for him and his team – and that Wolves fans got even angrier.

“Nice of Wolverhampton to respond to Noni Madueke's Instagram post by giving him the Freedom of the City,” wrote one fan on social media. “Madueke might have to walk out of here with bodyguards,” another joked. A third added: “This is generational hating from Noni Madueke.”

Madueke apologised for the social media mistake after the game. "I just want to apologise to everyone that I might have offended," he told Premier League Productions. "It is just a human mistake, an accident. It wasn't meant to be out on my socials like that. I'm sure Wolverhampton is a nice town and I'm sorry. In terms of the boos I expected it but it is part of the game. You have to be able to play under that sort of pressure."

Having spent their afternoon booing Madueke, Wolves fans ended up booing the addition of eight added minutes, although they were spared any more pain. Nevertheless, it was a dreadful afternoon for Wolves fans, who were forced to watch their team be torn to pieces.

Goals from Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen were little consolation as Gary O’Neil’s side were blown away by Chelsea. Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring after just two minutes with a back-post header before Palmer added a second.

After Madueke’s rapid hat-trick there was an immediate impact from Joao Felix following his £46million move from Atletico Madrid this week. He converted from Pedro Neto’s cross in a goal which will have particularly stung, given Neto only recently left Wolves for Chelsea in a £54m transfer.
