The Wolfe Tones made sure to Let The People Sing as tens of thousands turned up to watch their show-stopping performance at Electric Picnic yesterday evening.

Stradbally was awash with fans who piled together to catch a glimpse of the Irish rebel band during their one-hour set which kicked off at 5:30pm.

Social media videos also show there were deafening chants of “ooh ahh up the ra” during Celtic Symphony - similar scenes at the festival last year divided the country with some suggesting it “romanticised” the IRA and the Troubles.

Their impassioned renditions of some of their most famous songs including “Come Out Ye Black and Tans” ensured the crowd was well and truly geared up for the night ahead.

In 2023, the band performed on the Electric Arena stage but due to the sheer number of people who turned up, festival bosses decided to allow them to perform on the Main Stage to facilitate their legion of loyal fans.

Tom Grennan and RAYE were up next and also kept festival fans happy and entertained before Kylie Minogue closed the music bonanza.

Revellers who turned up to watch the Aussie pop princess certainly didn’t have to Dance Alone as die-hard fans were spotted enjoying themselves.

The 56-year-old's performance marked the end of this year’s Electric Picnic. In total, 75,000 people attended the three-day festival which saw American chart-topper Noah Kahan and Scottish star Gerry Cinnamon perform on Friday.

Saturday saw world-famous DJ Calvin Harris and Irish rock band Kodaline headline while an aerial photograph showed thousands crammed together to watch The Saw Doctors.

Belfast rap trio Kneecap, Teddy Swims, Eurovision star Bambie Thug, and Jazzy also took to the stage over the weekend. It comes as five buskers came together and made their mark by debuting an incredible collaborative show on the Three Music Stage.

The Three City Stages Collective saw Wicklow’s Ava McKechnie, Laois’ Brinda Irani, Waterford’s Dave Lofts, Galway’s Jamie McIntyre, and Kildare’s Tadhg Nolan are comprised of five up-and-coming musicians who have taken part in Three’s City Stages initiative over the past 18 months.

The group of young artists were given the opportunity by Three to take their talent from the city streets to the big stage at Ireland’s largest festival.

Ahead of the set, radio personality Fergal D’Arcy, warmed up the crowd before Galway songwriter Jamie McIntyre kicked things off with his original song, “Over Galway Town”. The tune has fast become a viral hit reaching more than 140,000 streams in just three weeks.

The set continued with the five acts each producing incredible performances which featured a mix of reimagined songs by well-known artists such as Kings of Leon, Rihanna, and Radiohead alongside original songs written by the City Stages stars.

The show was brought to a close with a group rendition of Irish band The Script’s “Breakeven” leading to rapturous applause from the capacity crowd.

The group rehearsed under the tutelage of one of Ireland’s most loved and revered performers Imelda May alongside Camden Recording Studios MD Cian Boylan and a 12-piece band of accomplished touring musicians who have graced the stage with global music stars such as Van Morrison, Sting, Brandon Flowers and Paolo Nutini.

Social media stars Kayleigh Trappe, Rachel Foster, and Brandon Caulfield were among those seen dancing and singing in the crowd while watching their performance.

Other fans spotted at Three’s Charge and Chill area included Owen Leahy and Courtney Casey while Mary Howes and Ken Meredith from Ballintuber were spotted tucking into a sweet treat.

Electric Picnic, which has grown to become the biggest date in the Irish music calendar, is normally scheduled for the last weekend in August but was brought forward to accommodate some acts.

But bosses have vowed it will be back to normal next year with early bird tickets going on sale from Wednesday. It comes as Electric Picnic promoter Melvin Benn also teased the festival could get even bigger. He said he would talk to Laois County Council about increasing the capacity.

Mr Benn declared: "It's up to the council to see if there is more room" but stressed: "I am on the receiving end of aggressive behaviour from some individuals nearing retirement age" who aren't fans of the festival.
