Jadon Sancho offers one-word verdict to Man Utd team-mate after missing first game
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho was not included in the Red Devils' squad for their season opener against Fulham at Old Trafford but he still supported the efforts of Bruno Fernandes
Jadon Sancho heaped praise on Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes after the star's outing against Fulham.
United recorded a 1-0 win over the Cottagers as Joshua Zirkzee scored on his debut at Old Trafford. The Dutchman enjoyed a dream start to his time in the Premier League as his teammates struggled to find a way past Bernd Leno until the 87th minute.
Fernandes twice saw his efforts saved by the Fulham goalkeeper in the opening half, and the Portugal international was unable to cap off a week in which he signed a new contract with the club. It did not stop the 29-year-old enjoying his return to action for United however.
The club captain was very happy to once again be playing at the Theatre of Dreams. Posting on Instagram, Fernandes showed his appreciation and also offered an apology.
He said: "Nothing beats the feeling of being back at Old Trafford," accompanied by a red heart emoji. Fernandes added: "Ps: fantasy league managers that trust me sorry for yesterday... I will repay you," followed by the grinning face with sweat emoji and a facepalming emoji.
It appears that despite being left out of Erik ten Hag's squad, Sancho was appreciative of Fernandes' efforts on Friday evening. The winger seems set to complete a transfer away from the club and has been linked with being included in a swap deal to PSG and Chelsea in recent weeks.
Sancho has plenty of interest in United at the moment however. In the comments to Fernandes' Instagram post, Sancho said: "BRUNO!" with a red love heart emoji.
Speaking after his side's win over Fulham, Ten Hag revealed that Sancho was not 100 per cent fit foor the clash but was available. The Dutchman preferred to use other options however.
“First of all we need squad depth, this season will be survival of the fittest, I can only put 20 players in the squad,” Ten Hag said. “Then Jadon in the week had an ear infection, he was not 100 per cent fit. He could play but we made the choice, we preferred [to have] others on the bench. But that can change. It will change.
“We can't play everyone the same, you see today how important the subs are. Sometimes frustrating for the player, but it's about team, club, there will be more players in this position, we expect them to fight for the club.”
