St. Mullins made the most of last weekend's Marty ‘Mouse’ Kavanagh lifeline to go on and land a 29th Carlow senior crown at Dr. Cullen Park this afternoon.

The record Carlow title holders made no mistake at the second time of asking as they won this replay 2-25 (31) to 3-16 (25) back at Dr. Cullen Park.

Last weekend, Kavanagh (29) was the last gasp hero, firing a deflected shot to the net in the final play of the game, as St. Mullin’s forced a draw in the dying seconds.

Mount Leinster Rangers were ahead for most of the game - in front by six points at the half hour mark, and led by three with the three minutes of stoppage time up.

This weekend was a different story though as St. Mullins emerged convincing victors.

They were on fire in the second quarter going from 0-6 to 0-4 ahead on 16 minutes to lead by a whopping 2-17 (23) to 0-10 at half-time.

St. Mullins outscored their opponents by 2-11 to 0-6 in a scintillating spell, and actually led by as much as 14 points in the 24th minute.

Mount Leinster Rangers threatened to make a serious game of it, cutting the deficit to 2-21 to 2-14 with 15 minutes to go. But the third goal they needed came too late, coming two minutes into stoppage time and was a mere consolation as they fell to a six point defeat.

Mount Leinster Rangers stay on 11 crowns here and will harbour plenty of regrets, particularly over last weekend’s finale.
