Josh Cullen is targeting a swift return to the Premier League under new Burnley boss Scott Parker.

The Turf Moor men went down last season and they begin life in the Championship on Monday night against fellow-relegated Luton Town.

A change in management has seen Parker replace Vincent Kompany, the new Bayern Munich boss.

Ireland midfielder Cullen has been positive about the former England midfielder’s impact so far - and he is confident that the Clarets can meet expectations this season.

“Hopefully we’re going to excite people this season,” he said. “We’re going to be on the front foot, and we’ll be an aggressive team. We want to dominate and win games.

“The attitude is that we know promotion is what is expected from us this season.

“We’re certainly looking forward to the season. Any negative mindsets left from last season have been put to bed now, and we’re looking forward to a fresh start.”

New boss Parker, a former England international, has plenty in common with the Ireland midfielder. He played in a similar role to Cullen, while their CVs include spells at Charlton and West Ham.

“It goes without saying that when a new manager comes in, he has fresh ideas and a fresh approach,” said Cullen.

“I can’t speak highly enough of how he’s been with the group so far. It’s been a really enjoyable pre-season with a lot of hard work.

“His career speaks for itself, playing in a similar position to myself. I’m very fortunate to have him as a manager and I’m looking forward to learning from him and taking every piece of advice he can give me.”

Looking ahead to the Luton clash, Cullen added: “It’s always a tough place to go. I’m sure it’ll be a good atmosphere there with our travelling fans, as well, to add to that.

“It’s two teams that have come down from the Premier League on a Monday night under the lights—it's a game we are relishing.”
