Taylor Swift fans with pre-booked trips to Vienna are reconsidering their travel plans after authorities foiled a suspected terror plot.

Thousands of Swifties were expected to descend on the Ernst Happel Stadium this week, with three sold-out Taylor Swift shows planned. However, the Eras Tour concerts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday were all cancelled by the organiser amid safety concerns.

On Wednesday, authorities arrested two suspected extremists , one of whom appeared to be planning an attack on an event in the Vienna area, and chilling details from the alleged plot have since emerged.

The news has devastated fans and caused chaos for those who had already made travel arrangements.

Frightened by recent developments, some fans with non-refundable bookings are also rethinking their visits.

Paula M, 25, from Cologne, Germany, was supposed to attend one of this week’s concerts with a group including her fiancé and her best friend, and they’d made plans to spend a few days in the Austrian capital.

But her friend and the relative she was travelling with have both decided to stay home after details of the threat emerged.

"They’re too scared that something might still happen," Paula told the Mirror. Meanwhile, Paula and her partner are still deciding whether or not they will go ahead with the trip despite not being able to go to the concert.

"We will probably still travel, especially since we cannot get refunds. We’ve booked multiple flights from different cities, and lots of transport to and from the airport," she explained.

Paula’s group had been looking forward to the popular show ever since they booked tickets last summer.

"I was at work. I was queuing for hours. It was all really exciting," she said. At the time, they couldn’t secure tickets for any of the shows in Germany, but they were ecstatic when "it all worked out" and they finally booked the show in Austria.

"We had planned to spend a few days in Vienna, do some sightseeing, and just in general have a great time. I was really excited to try some cafes. I was so excited for the concert. I had planned an outfit. We've talked for months, saying ‘Oh, what are you gonna wear?’ and I've been making friendship bracelets since late May,” the Swiftie shared.

She planned the trip to Vienna as part of an exciting getaway which first saw her travel to Paris to watch the Olympic Games, and it was in France, with her friendship bracelets in tow, that she learned the concert had been cancelled.

"I started crying in the middle of everyone," she said. "Lots of people were looking at me because I just started bawling. I was probably crying for an hour because I was so gutted."

Despite her disappointment, the fan emphasised that she understood why the concert was cancelled. Referencing the threat, she said: "It's really good that they caught this threat. I value my life. I value the life of my loved ones, of everyone. If you consider what happened in Manchester, I’m so glad something like that has been prevented."
