'I asked out cute guy next to me on plane - and couldn't believe what happened next'
Megan Meza, 24, from Los Angeles, California, struck up a conversation with the man in the seat next to her while on a plane, and the rest, as they say, is history
It sounds like a plot to a rom-com film or chick-lit book – a woman meets a man on an airplane and asks him out.
Cue a montage of phone calls, letters, messages, and more, as they fall madly in love and end up getting engaged.
However, for Megan Meza, this fairytale meeting was just the start of her happy ever after. Sharing how their love story began, Megan revealed how as she was settling into her window seat on her layover flight from Los Angeles to London in April 2022, she noticed a cute man entering her row.

She noticed him placing his bags on the aisle seat and fumbling with items in his bag. That's when he accidentally dropped his AirPods on the floor. Seizing the moment, Megan decided to initiate a conversation.
Hitting it off, Megan and the man, who she later discovered was named Freddie, chatted throughout the boarding process until they got to their seats where they discovered another passenger was sitting between them.
Undeterred, the pair continued chatting where they discussed their families, friendships, and lives as best they could over the girl in the middle seat. Megan even updated her mum, who was seated further up the plane with her dad, about the serendipitous encounter.
After chatting for a few hours the lights on the plane dimmed, indicating people would be going to sleep, so Megan thanked Freddie for the chat and settled down to read her book quietly.
However, Freddie was finished with their chat. Speaking about their meeting to PEOPLE, Megan revealed that he passed her his phone over the sleeping girl between them with a message written in his notes app asking if she had a boyfriend. Replying that she didn’t, the two continued sending notes until eventually, the passenger between them swapped seats so they could sit next to each other.
At the end of the flight, Megan and Freddie exchanged numbers but she was convinced that would be the last time she ever saw him. However, from that moment onwards, they began texting and FaceTiming daily. Two weeks after their chance meeting, Megan decided to book a flight to London for a July visit.
After that first holiday, the pair decided to make things official and began a long-distance relationship for the next two years with the two jetting across the pond to see each other whenever they good.
However, after two years, the couple’s long-distance relationship came to an end… because they got engaged! Freddie proposed to Meza on May 21 at a park they visited on their first date in the UK. After their engagement, she shared a video on TikTok detailing their love story, which quickly went viral gathering a massive 7million views.
People following their love story couldn’t believe how things had happened and rushed to share their thoughts. One user wrote: “True love is when they willingly take the middle seat to be closer.” And another person gushed: “Congratulations!! I also married a guy I met on a plane. 12 years later, can confirm it was the best decision I ever made xxx”
