Daena’s partner, Adam Corcoran, 29, of John Barry House in Midleton has been charged with her murder. He has been remanded in custody to appear before a court at a later date.

Hundreds of mourners gathered in St Laurence O' Toole's Church, Roundwood in Wicklow on Wednesday morning to pay their respects to Daena at her funeral Mass.

Daena Walsh was found dead in in John Barry House in Midleton, Co. Cork on Friday.

Chief mourners at her funeral included her loving sons Ezra and Kryson, mam Caroline, brothers Paul, Robbie, Callum and Noah, uncle Jason and Lynnette, cousins Marc, Aaron, Mick and Phyliss Walsh, grandparents, extended family, relatives and friends.

Chief celebrant Fr. John Greene told mourners “As we gather great sadness and pray for Daena, giving thanks to God for her love and kindness to her family and to her friends."

Fr Green said: "As we think of all that has happened to Daena and her loss of life, the loss of a daughter, a sister, a mother and a granddaughter as well, it’s something that shouldn’t have happened. And no-one should suffer like this, no-one should die so tragically as she did."

In an emotional eulogy, Daena’s brother Callum paid tribute to his sister saying “Daena was a wonderful sister, daughter and most of all she was an excellent, beautiful mother to her two boys Ezra and Kryson whom she adored greatly.”

An emotional Callum continued: “Daena was well known for her iconic hair colour and mad lipstick.

“Even though she could be cheeky at times, she will always be our cheeky sister and that will be forever cherished in our hearts.

“Daena was so down to earth and would help anyone with anything, if she was in a good mood,” Callum continued.

He said her death is “is truly tragic,” and thanked mourners who attended the funeral Mass and for “all the support everyone has shown us in the past few days.

“Daena, we will miss you forever,” said Callum.

Symbols of Daena’s life including her favourite perfume, gel nails, lipstick, a teddy bear and a can of Red Bull were brought to the altar.

During the communion procession, a song called ‘The Prayer’ by Charlotte Church and Josh Groban was sung with the lines: “Lead us to a place, Guide us with your grace, To a place where we’ll be safe.”

When Dayna’s remains were carried out of the church during the hymn ‘Be Not Afraid' four white doves were released above her coffin to a round of applause from mourners.

Following the funeral Mass, a cremation service took place in McCrea’s Cremation Chapel in Wicklow Town.
