President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Simon Harris, Michael Carruth and Conor McGregor are among the many people who have sent messages of congratulations to Kellie Harrington on her incredible Olympic success.
The Dubliner defeated Wenlu Yang of China at Roland Garros in the women’s 60kg final on Tuesday night to become Ireland's first ever back to back Olympic boxing champion.
Harrington confirmed immediately after the fight that she would "retire a champion".

She told RTE: “It’s the last hurrah. I’m done. I always said I’d retire a champion, that’s it.
“Let me say it again: Bob’s your uncle, Fanny’s your auntie, goodnight Irene.”
Messages have been pouring in for the boxer online, with President Michael D Higgins writing: "Congratulations to Kellie Harrington on her historic achievement in becoming a double Olympic champion with a wonderful Gold medal. A truly remarkable achievement by a phenomenal sportsperson."
Taoiseach Simon Harris commented: "You’ve done it Kellie Harrington. Gold!!!!! That was tough, strategic, smart! Simply magnificent. The entire country is watching your celebrations with joy & is hoarse from shouting you on. Two time Olympic Champion Kellie. Paris 2024 - A record Olympics for Team Ireland."
