Monaghan boy, 10, dies in farm

Heartbreaking tributes are being paid to a national school pupil who died in a farming tragedy in Co Monaghan at the weekend.

The HSA confirmed they are investigating a quad bike accident involving the young boy. The child who has been named as Finn McGrath (10) from Dunaree, Laragh, Castleblayney was airlifted to hospital following the accident but passed away at Temple Street Hospital in Dublin on Saturday.

The school and Castleblayney communities had been praying for Finn after word spread that he was airlifted to hospital following an accident at the weekend. Locals are now rallying around Finn’s heartbroken parents and siblings in the tight-knit community.

Paying tribute, Lisadoon NS where Finn was a pupil wrote ‘’deepest sympathy to Paul, Caroline, Jack, Ella Rose, Finn’s grandparents and all the Keenan and McGrath family on the loss of your beautiful Finn. His bright smile and gentle nature will be greatly missed by all of us at Lisdoonan NS. May his soul rest in peace. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time’’.

The Lisadoon Development Association also paid tribute. They wrote: ‘’The management and staff of Lisdoonan centre and shop are very sorry to hear of the untimely passing of Finn McGrath a beloved member of the community we are sending our heartfelt condolences to his parents Caroline and Paul and his siblings jack and Ella rose grandparents Peadar and Rose kennan, James and Martina and extended Keenan and McGrath family May his little soul rest in peace’’.

Ballybay Mart wrote ‘’Sincere condolences to the McGrath and Keenan families on the tragic passing of Finn. Keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. May he rest in peace’’.

Local GAA club Shercock GFC also paid tribute. Writing on social media they said ‘’Shercock GFC would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the McGrath and Keenan families on the sad and untimely passing of Finn. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace. Fly high little man. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.’’

The Health and Safety Authority confirmed they are investigating a quad bike accident involving the young boy.

The Lisdoonan National School pupil also leaves behind a brother and sister. At the request of the family, there will be no public wake.

The McGrath & Keenan families would like to thank you for your understanding and respect the privacy of the families, to afford them the space needed at this most difficult time. Finn’s Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning in St. Mary’s Church, Lisdoonan at 11am. Burial afterwards in adjoining Cemetery.
