Galway star Paul Conroy has been a true leader for the Tribesmen in their run to the 2024 All-Ireland Football Championship final.

Conroy is an all-action midfielder who has been a mainstay for Galway since making his championship debut in Connacht quarter final against Roscommon in 2008, reports RSVP LIVE.

Away from sport he works as a teacher and has been married to his wife Caroline for five and half years.

Galway Career

Paul captained the Galway minors to an All-Ireland Championship win over Derry in 2007. From there he was called into the senior set up by then manager Liam Sammon.

He has been part of the panel for 17 years and he was captain for three seasons between 2014 and 2016.

Over the course of his playing time with Galway he has won six Connacht Senior Football Championships medals as well as a National Football League Division 2 title. He was part of the side that was defeated by Kerry in the 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final.

Paul married Caroline in the village of Peterswell back in December 2018. Their celebrations continued on honeymoon in Vietnam over Christmas.

The couple are parents to son Páidí. The youngster regularly attends his daddy's big games, including the recent historic win over Dublin in Croke Park.

He arrived into the world in October 2022. Popular Facebook page Galway Footballers Homepage wrote: “Congratulations to Paul Conroy and his wife Caroline, on the arrival of their baby boy, Páidí”.

Injuries

Paul broke both of his legs after a nasty clash with Kerry star Sean O'Shea during a game with Kerry in the 2018 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Super 8's series. He was out of action for over 18 months as a result of his injury.

Ireland ace Seamus Coleman reached out to him at the time and shared some words of wisdom after going through something similar himself.

"I was 29 at the time. Some people would say, 'You'll find it very hard to get back', and you try to stay away from them type of people," said Paul.

Galway’s Paul Conroy celebrates with Cillian McDaid

"You try and stay with the people who have the experience. At the time, I remember talking to Seamus Coleman, he gave me a ring because he had a similar injury. Things like that help you along the way...

"He seen it in the media and he gave me a ring, which was brilliant. He reached out to me on Instagram and he gave me a shout and offered his support.

"I was well impressed with that, I've been shouting for Everton a bit since."

Day Job

Paul works as an Irish and business teacher at Coláiste Bhaile Chláir in Claregalway, outside Galway city.

His teammate Damien Comer is also a teacher in the school.

Death of his Well-Known Father

Paul's father Seán died in January 2023.

A statement from their club said:: "Seán Conroy gave outstanding service to St. James' GAA Galway.

"He served as an underage coach and was involved with many successful minor, U21 and senior teams.

"The club would like to take this opportunity to offer our condolences to the Conroy family. We appreciate all the time and service he gave to the club.

"We think of his wife Ann, children Seán, Martina, Paul, Áine and all his extended family members. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
