Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys has slammed claims that he cheated on his 'terminally ill' wife before marrying his daughter's friend.

The 66-year-old, who left Sky Sports under a cloud alongside former footballer Andy Gray after they were recorded making sexist comments about female officials while covering a game for the broadcaster, has taken to X to hit back at someone who he believed had spoken out of turn about his personal situation.

Richard secretly married his daughter's friend, Lucie Rose, 35, in a ceremony in Devon last June and has denied falling in love with the lawyer, who is 32 years younger, while his wife was battling cancer. His 38-year-old daughter Jemma and son Joshua did not attend the ceremony.

The TV presenter became embroiled in a heated debate on social media after he paid tribute to a former Sky Sports rugby league commentator who had died following a battle with prostate cancer. Richard was moved to reply when one comment mentioned his ex-wife and he felt that had gone too far.

One user posted on X: "A comment about class when you cheated on your terminally ill misses with your daughters friend has some sort of irony doesn’t it gorilla hands".

Richard wasn't going to let that comment go unchallenged and hit back at the accusation, writing: "You guys have no idea. Terminally ill? She's still here - Alive and Kicking. Behave yourself. It's time for this nonsense to stop."

Another user then joined the fray, posting: "Oh come on Richard. I was in the Cardinal Clinic in Windsor with your ex-wife Julia." The TV presenter, who now lives in Doha, Qatar, where he fronts beIN's football coverage with Andy Gray, replied on X: "One of the unwritten rules of therapy of course is that you don't ever break confidences. But you do."

The comments on X were relating to the ending of Richard's 36 year marriage to Julia in 2016, after she had recovered from thyroid cancer. She cited his infidelity in the divorce and had said that Richard's alleged affair had "devastated" her as she recovered from cancer and had destroyed his relationship with his children.

Richard had previously addressed this when speaking to The Athletic in 2019: "I'll mention the unmentionable for you. Did I leave my wife fighting cancer? No. I don't know what happened. I don't know why our marriage ended the way it did, but my wife was fighting cancer for seven years before I left her and she had been in remission for seven years.

"She and I went to London every day of her fight, prior to a ground-breaking operation that saw her in a period of recovery. Julia had been in remission for seven years. I know how hard it was for her when things went wrong. I wasn't going to start engaging in a tit-for-tat, he-said, she-said, respond to everything that was said about me."

Richard added: "If people believe that I walked away with my wife fighting cancer with a friend of my daughter's. I can't change that now. Tell a lie twice and it becomes the truth. Tell it on social media and it haunts you forever. I didn't fall in love with a friend of my daughter's."
